Introduction

Explore Christchurch as it grows and changes. There is so much to see and explore, and our tours are a favourite for people who love to get about on a bike. Ride the city streets with us, visiting things to do and places to play along the way. Our City Bike Tours are two hours with a local guide and up to eight guests (minimum two) on urban classic bikes.

Bookings are essential, please contact us for more information or to book your tour. We ride Monday through to Saturday.

Itinerary

For visitors who are short on time our tours take in the highlights of the city, you see a lot more on a bike than you would walking or driving.

Hagley Park opens up for easy cycling and a chance to see how the city’s residents utilise the park for sporting and social activities.

There is a lot of construction activity and plenty of new landscaping worth crediting, plus a combination of heritage sites which have found a new lease of life and state of the art building to admire.  The city is made for biking and our local guides will wind through the alleyways, cycle ways and carve through the city pointing out interesting facts and history, especially around the changing urbanscape.

We give recommendations that can be taken well beyond the tour. For anyone planning to stay in the city for a while we’ll make sure they’re well informed on where to go and how to get there.

The start and end point is at The Vintage Peddler, 7/75 Peterborough Street in Central Christchurch.

Vintage Peddler Tour FAQ's

Do I have to be super fit to come on a bike tour?

No, however, you have to know how to ride a bike. Christchurch is flat, so you won't have to ride up any hills. Our urban tour bikes have gears and are very comfortable & easy to ride. We always set our pace so the whole group can keep up and you still have time to look around and take in the city.

Is it safe to ride a bike in central Christchurch?

Safety is our number 1 priority. Christchurch is a very ride-able city and the speed limit for motorised vehicles in the city is 30km per hour. We ride on the shared paths and cycleways wherever possible. Tours start with a safety talk and an opportunity to get familiar with the bike before heading out.

What kinds of bikes do you provide?

All of our bikes are wonderful for cruising the city streets. The majority of our tour fleet are lovely new Schwinn bikes. They are very comfortable and stylish too. For larger groups we bring in bikes from our Vintage and Urban fleet.

Where do your tours start?

From our studio on Peterborough Street in central Christchurch.

Where can I park my car?

There is parking available nearby on Durham, Salisbury and Victoria streets. Expect to pay around $5 for a few hours parking in the city.

Can you pick me up/drop me off from my hotel or other activity?

It depends on our availability. Please contact us with your request.

What is the cancellation policy?

- Full refund less 15% deposit (admin fee) if you cancel more than 14 days prior to start.

- No refund if you cancel 14 days or less prior to start.

- If the tour is cancelled by Vintage Peddler due to circumstances outside our control, a refund less 15%.  This is at the discretion of the guide, and safety is the most the most important consideration.

Can you store my bag while I’m out on tour?

Yes we are happy to. It will either be safe with one of our team at the studio or locked up if we are all out on tour.

Are there places nearby to eat/drink?

Yes, we are located very close to the central city and have lots of great cafes, food trucks, restaurants and bars nearby. We are happy to give recommendations depending on what you are after.

Do you have equipment or trailers to carry infants or small children?

Yes, you will need to let us know in advance though so that we can make sure we have the appropriate setup for you.

Can kids come on a tour?

On a private tour, yes. For our group tours the minimum age is 14 years but please talk to us if you are not sure what will work for your group.

Should I bring water?

We have a stop at C4 Coffee Roastery where you can quench your thirst. There are also drinking fountains along our tour routes.

What should I wear?

Flat shoes and comfortable clothes you can ride in. In cooler weather a light rain jacket is a good idea, as are gloves. If you want to carry water or other items please bring a backpack.

But if it is raining do I get a refund?

We ride in all weather so please be prepared to ride even if it is raining.

Do you also hire out bikes if I want to keep riding after the tour?

Yes we have a fleet of bikes available for hire.
