I’ve lived in Christchurch for over 20 years, and initially struggled with the flat city having been brought up at the top of the Cable Car in Wellington. Cycling in Christchurch City for me started as a laugh on my first bike - vintage Raleigh, Stu’s Blue.  I love the simplicity of the older bikes and the colour they bring to our city streets.  Like any good collector, my next bike was irresistible, a gold Raleigh with a two speed kick back inner hub, now called Gold Member.  Somehow Vintage Peddler’s collection has grown, and our excuse ….to share these bikes with others who wish to explore Christchurch.

Today, we offer a three hour tour of the city which takes in the changing urbanscape, and we also have a collection of classic new bikes. Personally, exploring Christchurch on a bike is the best way to find secret spots, indulge in good food and activities on offer, and share the ride with others.  I enjoy showing people about, sharing my story of life living and working in the city, and hearing about other people’s passion for travelling on two wheels.  Vintage Peddler Bike Tours, ‘for those who enjoy the finer bikes of life’.

Living in Christchurch is a dream, I can ride to work, the gym, the pool, the beach, the markets without battling a hill or howling southerly (I used to live in windy Wellington). Then for an adrenaline fix I can head for the hills to ride the mountain bike tracks. Saying I love to ride bikes is a bit of an understatement!

It is a joy to share the best bits of Christchurch on the Vintage Peddler tours. There is no better way to explore the city than by bike. All the hidden gems - the street art, cafes, beautiful heritage buildings, you get to see them all in a few hours. Riding in the city is both relaxing and energising, especially cruising the cycleways in Hagley Park along the Avon. When I travel I like to get a local perspective, find out what's really going on and that's what our tours are all about.
